David W. Hunter
Founder and Chairman
Dave founded Hunter Associates on July 2, 1992, after thirty-seven years in the securities industry. After serving in the Army for several years, Dave started his career in 1954 as a stockbroker with McKelvy & Company, where he went on to become a partner and manager of the Underwriting, Research and Corporate Finance department. In 1969, McKelvy & Company merged with Kay Richards & Company to form Parker/Hunter Incorporated. Dave served as chairman and chief executive officer from 1975 to 1984, remained chairman through 1989, and held the position of chairman emeritus from 1989 to 1992.
Dave graduated cum laude from Amherst College with a bachelor’s degree in economics and holds an M.B.A. degree from Harvard Business School. He has lectured at Harvard, the University of Pennsylvania, Carnegie Mellon University and Wharton.
Throughout his career, Dave has been active in both industry and community affairs. Some of his many accomplishments include serving as chairman for notable industry organizations such as NASDAQ, the Board of Governors of the National Association of Securities Dealers, and the Securities Industry Association. He also served as a member of the Board of Governors of the Chicago Stock Exchange.
He has served as a director of numerous institutions, including Harvard Business School Club of Pittsburgh, Fidelity Guard Services, Kiene Diesel Accessories, Lockhart Companies, Mestek, OmegaFlex, Chesapeake Instrument Corporation, PBI Industries, Quanterra, Chester Engineers, Justifacts, U.S. Computer Solutions, and US Tool & Die.
